Someone you really like will give you something today that they think is a wonderful gift. Unfortunately, you think it's a big burden. Sure, they'll try their best to candy-coat this present enough to make it palatable to you, but if you're not buying the act, don't pretend that you do. Cut to the chase and let them know that if they need something out of you, they should just ask for it straight out. All of this window dressing is silly and a little bit demeaning to you both.
